‘22 gov aspirants may dump PDP this week’
The group of 22 governorship aspirants
in Akwa Ibom State has explained why they may dump the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom this
week.
Already, the governorship candidate of
the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Umana, has
met with the 22 aggrieved PDP governorship aspirants, asking them to
support him in his bid to win the state governorship election.
This was contained in a statement issued
by the Umana Campaign Organisation in Uyo on Sunday. Umana declared
this when he paid a solidarity visit to the Forum of Akwa Ibom State PDP
Governorship Aspirants – G22.
The meeting, which took place on
Saturday evening at Maitama Secretariat of the group, lasted four hours,
with all the G22 members in attendance.
A prominent member of the group, who is
also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Senator Helen
Esuene, told one of our correspondents in Abuja on Friday that they were
not happy with the process employed by the PDP to produce the party’s
governorship candidate in the state.
She said the party primary did not follow the due process.
Esuene said the patience of aspirants
was running out. Hence, they were prepared to defect if the injustice in
the party continues
