UNKNOWN gunmen have kidnapped one of president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari's main associates in Delta State Dr Isaac Tobore Ajuashi the chairman of the state chapter of the Buhari Supporters Organisation. Less than three weeks to the swearing-in of General Buhari as Nigeria's president, Dr Ajuasho was abducted from his home in Oghara, in the Ethiope West Area of the state. It is not yet known if his kidnappers will be asking for a ransom for his return or if it was the handiwork of political opponents intent on harming him. Dr Ajuashi is also the father of Edirin Ajuashi Ejidiran, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ethiope West, in the just-concluded Delta State House of Assembly elections. Local police have been informed about the development , although the kidnappers are yet to make contact with Dr Ajuashi's family. Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Celestina Kalu, the spokeswoman for the delta State Police Command, said the abductee, was whisked away by armed men in his Toyota Sequoia Jeep. She added that investigations were ongoing to unravel the victim’s whereabouts as well as smoke the hoodlums out of their hiding place. “Be informed that information reached me this afternoon that one Ajuashi of Ogini Road by Ogini Grammar School was kidnapped by unknown gunmen yesterday in his compound at about 2100hrs,” DSP Kalu confirmed. Kidnapping has been very rampant in the Niger Delta over recent years, with Delta State being one of Nigeria's hot spots. Finance minister Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's mother was abducted in Delta State last year and in neighbouring Bayelsa State, President Goodluck Jonathan's uncle was also kidnapped.
