[New post] One Dead, Seven Injured In Yobe School Suicide Attack
A suicide bomber suspected to be a member of dreaded Boko Haram sect armed with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and AK47 rifle on Friday launched an attack on the College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS) Potiskum in Yobe state.
Potiskum is North west and about 100km drive from Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
The Information Department of the institution said that the bomber stormed the school around 8:00am and started shooting sporadically at the gate before entering the school shooting at students and teachers alike aimlessly.
The source said efforts were made to get hold of the bomber whose ammunitions were noticed to be running out after a prolong shooting but to avoid being caught, he triggered his IED and killed himself.
“The bomber stormed the school around 8:00AM this morning and commenced shooting at a popular arena where he injured several people and later triggered explosives he was carrying along killing just himself to avoid being caught.
“I strongly commend the people who stood resolute during the attack in an efforts to catch him red handed after noticing his ammunition was running out of stock, but to avoid being cut, the bomber triggered the IED as he was killed instantly”
Hospital source said that seven people with various degrees of gunshot injuries have been being treated at the Potiskum general hospital located just beside the attacked school.
The Police Public Relations officer Yobe State Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin who confirmed the incident said the bomber killed himself in the process while injuring several others.
He also said the situation has been brought under control.
The PPRO called on the public not to take for granted the gains of the ongoing peace efforts intensified by the security forces and urged them to remain vigilant and observance in the fight against insurgency and to report people with suspicious character for prompt action.
