Abia CP denies taking custody of stolen electoral material

As tension still mounts in Abia over the inconclusive nature of the April 11
governorship poll, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Joshak Habila,
has denied taking custody of any stolen electoral materials allegedly recovered from
Osisioma Local Government Area, contrary to some media reports.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ezekiel Onyeke, and made
available to The PUNCH in Umuahia on Wednesday, faulted media reports
that the CP had admitted taking custody of the said recovered electoral materials.
According to some media reports, the agent of the All Progressive Grand
Alliance, Chief Ahamdi Nweke, was said to have “tendered a handwritten note
reportedly signed by the CP, indicating that electoral materials, recovered from the
bush in Osisioma, were in the police custody.”
The statement read in part, ” The CP wishes to state in clear terms that he
did not at any time sign or issue a signed document relating to recovered
election materials at Osisioma to any person or group as purportedly reported.
“The allegation, to say the least, is the handiwork of mischief makers who are
hell bent on maliciously maligning the image of the Command.
“It is the figment of the imagination of the maker and does not in any way
represent the action of the CP.
The statement enjoined members of the public to disregard the media report,
describing it as falsehood aimed at misleading the people.
