DIEZANI & AMAECHI: BETWEEN A ‘GOOD THIEF’ AND A ‘BAD ONE’

DIEZANI & AMAECHI: BETWEEN A ‘GOOD THIEF’ AND A ‘BAD ONE’

DIEZANI & AMAECHI: BETWEEN A ‘GOOD THIEF’ AND A ‘BAD ONE’
Diezani stole federal money to finance GEJ’s campaign. Amaechi stole Rivers State money to finance Buhari’s campaign. Now, Diezani deserves the hangman’s noose while Amaechi deserves a ministerial diadem.
I do NOT begrudge him. But let it be noted that with his ministerial beatification, the anti-corruption charade is finally dead.
A guy ‘explained’ the two scenarios to me yesterday and his ‘explanation’ made me conclude that in terms of moral rebirth, this country is DEAD! To him, Amaechi fought a GOOD CAUSE in Buhari’s presidential campaign while Diezani was just a greedy, corrupt woman.
Since that yesterday, I have been asking: WHAT IS CORRUPTION? WHO IS CORRUPT? WHAT MAKES SOMEONE CORRUPT? IS THERE ALWAYS A MORAL ASPECT OF FIGHTING CORRUPTION? IS POLITICAL CONSIDERATION MORE IMPORTANT IN FIGHTING CORRUPTION? And finally, HOW DID WE GET TO THIS POINT IN OUR MORAL SCRUPLES? And this last question has been agitating my mind.
Even some people I know in real with high sense of morality now distinguish between ‘acceptable stealing’ and ‘non-acceptable stealing’.
On Facebook, I see those who, months ago, were anti-corruption crusaders saying no big deal in Amaechi stealing to finance Buhari’s campaign. At least, he used the money for a ‘good thing’
A people with this type of mindset yet are asking for a clean society. The bible says we cannot wallow in sin while our deposit of grace increases. What is wrong then in Diezani robbing us too in Abuja to finance Jonathan’s campaign? Why are you saying she should be crucified! What is the difference between her own stealing and Amaechi’s?
To every Nigerian with this good-thief-and-bad-thief mentality, I have a prayer for you: MAY GOD TREAT YOUR CASE THE WAY YOU ARE TREATING THE CASE OF THESE TWO ‘THIEVES’.
Can I hear you say a big amen?
