Abia Guber: I will not Hand Over to Alex Otti – Ikpeazu
Abia
State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has faulted the Appeal Court
Judgment that sacked him as the Governor of Abia State and said he is
confident that the Supreme Court will correct the anomaly.
Ikpeazu stated this while briefing newsmen in Umuahia on yesterday’s ruling of the court, which nullified his election and ordered that his opponent and governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Alex Oti, be sworn in as the winner of the election.
Dr. Ikpeazu said he had not received full briefing on the reason for the decision of the Court of Appeal, stating that the preliminary reports indicated that the premise on which the ruling was arrived at was callous.
He said he had instructed his lawyers to appeal the judgment at the Supreme Court, affirming that he remains the governor until the Supreme Court reaffirms the victory duly given to him by the people of Abia State.
He assured all Abians that all was well and called on security agents to maintain the peace in the state to ensure that people go about their normal businesses.
He appealed to his supporters to remain calm in the face of provocations and reiterated that victory would be his at the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Umuahia, the state capital went wild after news of the Appeal Court judgment in Owerri filtered in declaring Dr. Alex Otti winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
