A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun, has insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan stands the chance of winning the February 14 Presidential candidate election than the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Oyedokun made this remarked in Osogbo on Saturday, at the launch of the campaign of the PDP candidate in Osun Central Senatorial District, Mr. Daisi Aina.
According to him, Buhari did not deserve Nigerians’ vote, especially the vote of the people of the South-West based on his human rights records and the way he dealt with Nigerians during his days as the military Head of State.
Oyedokun, who spoke in Yoruba language, said that the North ought not to have presented Buhari, who he said, abhorred the rule of law when he was the military Head of State.
He said, “Even if they want to pick somebody from the North, it shouldn’t be Buhari. Most of you who are below 40 years may not really know how he dealt with Nigerians when he was the Head of State.
“Buhari jailed (the late Chief) Bola Ige, he jailed Chief Bisi Akande, he jailed the late Adekunle Ajasin and others who did nothing wrong. Although, I have not seen Akande at his rally.
“Some died while being detained by Buhari and he did not allow their children to bury them. Is this the kind of person Nigerians want to vote in as their president? He will be more brutal if he ever gets back into power and that is why we must not vote for him.
“President Goodluck Jonathan is a civil and humane leader who has been performing despite the challenges before him. You cannot compare the two of them, President Jonathan is far better than Buhari. This Buhari will do worse than he did then, if he is voted into power,” he added
